The destinations in south east Asia are endless, but here are five beautiful tropical islands to get you started.
Langkawi
A cluster of Malaysian islands, located just 30 km off mainland Malaysia, Langkawi consists of 100 islands in total, however, only three are inhabited, so there are many deserted beaches to provide the perfect romantic setting for your holiday.
With its stunningly beautiful pristine beaches, clear turquoise calm waters and lush tropical rainforest backdrop Langkawi is the perfect paradise to relax and have a romantic holiday with your loved one.
Many of the hotels in Langkawi are first class with great service and have fantastic views – offering the perfect excuse to relax and stay in bed all day. Beautiful resort pools provide a great setting to relax and be waited on, providing the perfect alone time to appreciate each other. For the most romantic accommodation stay in one of gorgeous luxury 5-star resorts in either Datai Bay or Pantai Kok.
Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc– one of Vietnams gorgeous islands, is a wonderfully romantic destination for couples. With the natural beauty of its beaches and the exclusion of hustle and bustle you will experience pure bliss.
To date progress hasn’t spoiled the landscape or the simple fishing villages. However, don’t be mistaken, holidays on Phu Quoc are not to be associated with undeveloped island living. Luxury awaits, where the simple life is combined with extravagant resorts offering wonderful food, and beautiful relaxing environments, that are hidden away amongst the tropical forest.
There are a variety of beaches to chose from for your romantic holiday, depending upon your ideal setting.
The most popular Phu Quoc beach is Long Beach where you will find numerous first-class resorts or more simple beach bungalows where you will hear the waves of the ocean from your bed. Long Beach also has spectacular sunsets and a variety of colourful beach bars to witness them from. For a quieter setting check out Ong Lang Beach where there are a few resorts dotted along the beach. If you prefer upmarket first-class resorts, then consider staying in the area of Ganh Dau which even has a casino and golf course.
Couples can spend their days in Phu Quoc lingering by their resorts pool or soaking in the warm turquoise waters. Other activities include hiring your own private boat to explore nearby stunning tropical islands and snorkelling or hire a motor bike and have your own island adventure tour.
Gili Islands
The Gili Islands are 3 small islands just off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia, which are easily accessible by boat from both Lombok or popular Bali. Each island offers a perfect fit for a romantic getaway and with each island no more than a 5 minutes boat ride away from each other you can easily visit them all.

Each island offers tons of natural beauty, white sand beaches meet crystal clear water that is about as warm as a bath. The centre of the islands are covered densely by beautiful trees and greenery which extends to the beach providing a very private feel. The exclusivity of these islands means It’s not hard to find a private beach and really feel like you and your significant other have escaped to paradise!
All these islands are budget friendly, where you can stay in luxury 4 & 5 star resorts at great rates. Food, drinks and spa treatments are very affordable as well.
For the ultimate in tranquillity, stay a few nights on Gili Meno. This island is so quiet that you may be mistaken that you have the entire island to yourself!

And let’s not forget the amazing gastronomy that never fails to disappoint, even for the most die-hard foodies. You can’t go wrong with Barcelona as a romantic getaway – your time in Barcelona with a special someone will be one to remember. These 7 romantic things to do in Barcelona will jump-start your planning.
Day Trip to a Catalan Winery
Catalunya is home to many wine regions that produce amazing red and white wine, as well as the Catalan sparkling wine, cava. Many of these wineries are on the hills adjacent to the ocean, along the coast of Catalunya. From the vineyards, you can often get a great view of the ocean. What’s more romantic than learning about wine production, tasting some quality wine, then having a picnic among the vineyards with views to the ocean?
For a perfect half day or full day trip, Alella is a wine region that is an easy day trip from Barcelona, only 25 minutes by car or 1 hour by train and bus. At the esteemed winery Alta Alella, you can take a winery tour with wine tasting. At the neighboring winery Bouquet d’Alella, you can even have a picnic among the vines!
Although the Magical Fountain of Montjuic can seem like a bit of a cliché and brimming with tourists, (much like the famous sites of the exciting Gracia neighborhood) it is undeniably one of the most romantic places in Barcelona. Dare I even say, “magical”?
With the stunning backdrop of the Palau Nacional, the gigantic fountain in front of the Montjuic mountain has a light and music show every Thursday-Saturday, and more frequently in the summer (schedule here). The synchronization of music (always the classics), light, and water will leave you in awe. Stand too close to the fountain you’ll even get wet – there’s nothing like sneaking a kiss in “the rain” to turn the romance up a notch.
El Born and Barrio Gótico, in the medieval section of the city, are likely the most romantic quarters of Barcelona. They are home to narrow, winding streets full of tapas restaurants and bars, each with its own flair.
By night, many of the famous buildings are also illuminated by light at night, such as the Catedral de Barcelona and Palau de la Música Catalana, adding to the mystery and romance of the old town.
Explore these quarters, then sit down for some sangria or wine on an outdoor terrace. Snuggle up, feed each other some tapas, and whisper sweet nothings into each others’ ears.
Antic Teatre
Tucked away in El Born, the Antic Teatre is just as it sounds, an “old theater”. Unless you’re in the know, you wouldn’t look for what’s hidden behind the doors of the theater. Shaded by lush vegetation, it is one of the nicest indoor terraces in Barcelona.
The bar of Antic Teatre is romantic both for a nice morning coffee or an evening drink after walking around the city all day. True to its name, it’s also a cultural center so you can see theatrical performances here (although most programs will be in Catalan or Spanish).
The Rooftop Bar at Ohla Hotel is hands down the most romantic rooftop bar in Barcelona. Right in the heart of Barrio Gótico, lovebirds can sit facing the view of Gothic architecture rooftops while sipping cocktails. There’s even a rooftop pool for those that wish to take a dip.
Go at dusk and watch the sky turn colors as the sun goes down. This could be perfect for summertime in Barcelona…or any other time of year.
When the weather is nice, the beaches of Barcelona are usually crowded with tourists during the day. But at night, the beach provides a rare respite from the hoardes of tourists in the city. If you’re the partying type, you can dance the night away at the beachside clubs like Opium Mar, CDLC, Pacha.
After a big night out, you can stumble out onto the beaches conveniently located right outside the clubs and cuddle with your honey on the beach. Perambulating vendors, aka the “cerveza beer” guys. Cerveza is Spanish for beer and these vendors are in business on the beach at all hours of the day. They will come offer you beer for a euro, but when they see canoodling couples the script slightly changes to “Cerveza beer, cerveza beer… Condom?”
Hike to Tibidabo
Those that have been to Barcelona might wonder what is the large white church up there on the tallest mountain. When illuminated up at night, it looks a bit like the Disney castle! That in fact, is not only the church, Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, but it also marks the location of the Tibidabo amusement park.
You can go directly up the mountain and amusement park by public transportation, or for the active couple, you can hike up there from Parc Guell (Vallcara Metro Station), climbing four kilometers. Once up the mountain, you can spend the afternoon enjoying the best views of the city and bond over the adrenaline rush from the rides!
Sant Jordi is the Catalan version of Valentines Day. And in my opinion, it’s more romantic than Valentines Day!
Sant Jordi falls on April 23rd annually, and it has very romantic tradition: the men give a rose to the women, and the women gives the men a book. Love is in the air not only for the couples, but all over the city; on this day, Barcelona is filled with street stalls selling flowers and books wherever you go. What a beautiful, literary holiday!

An artists’ sanctuary, Provence lures in visitors with its sun-kissed landscapes and enviable climate. The ultimate romantic destination, it’s the perfect place to get lost in nature, in a slower pace of life, and experience the joie de vivre the South of France is renowned for.
Read on to find the most romantic things to do in Provence, for your next fling in France!
Visit the Calanques National Park
The Calanques National Park near Marseille is an area of immense natural beauty. Spanning the coast between Les Goudes (otherwise known as the end of the world) and Cassis, the park is the first in Europe to envelop land, sea, and urban areas. Within the park, you’ll find incredible hikes, stunning beaches, fragrant natural flora, and underwater treasures too.
Set out for the day, pack your hiking shoes and a picnic, and start your trek from either Port Miou (at the eastern end), Calanque de Callelongue (at the western end), or the Luminy University (middle). These three trails will take you through some of the most breathtaking scenery in France.
Stroll among the fragrant lavender fields
Without a doubt, the lavender fields of Provence are among the most beautiful attractions in the area, and cannot be missed if you’re visiting in summer. From late June the landscape is laced with purple rows of these fine flowers, and their unmistakable aroma fills the air.
The Valensole plateau is where you’ll find the most concentrated number of lavender fields, interspersed by sunflowers and sage. But you’ll also find lovely fields in the Luberon, and the Sault plateau is where to go in August, as the lavender blooms later in the higher altitude. Of course, the lavender fields also make the ideal backdrop for a romantic picnic for two, or for a keepsake portrait session.
Aix-en-Provence is known as market city, and once you visit, you’ll know why it earned this reputation. In the warmer months, market stalls spread up Cours Mirabeau and fan out into the city, every day of the week.
Each area has its own unique theme, starting with antiques around La Rotonde, easing into fashion and crafts as you walk down the tree-lined boulevard, and spreading into fresh food as you continue along to Place des Prêcheurs. You’ll also find a flower market in front of the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville and a daily food market at Place Richelme – perfect for grabbing goodies for a picnic to enjoy in one of Aix-en-Provence’s leafy parks.
Watch the sunset from a rooftop bar in Marseille
If you’re looking for the most romantic things to do in Marseille, head to the Vieux Port. It’s here you’ll feel a different kind of vibe than you’ll experience in the more refined cities of Aix-en-Provence or Avignon, but it’s one worth exploring if you want to experience the lively spirit of France’s second city.
After spending the day discovering the neighborhoods, museums, and markets that surround the inner city, head to a rooftop terrace to watch the sun sink over the Mediterranean. The Rowing Club is located at the end of the old harbour, opposite the MuCEM and offers a casual setting, often with live music and tapas to accompany your apéro.
The Verdon Gorge is one of the most impressive natural attractions in Provence. The 50km long canyon can be explored from above – by car, bike or foot – or below, by boat. Take the latter option if you’re looking for the most relaxed journey. You can hire kayaks, pedal boats, or motorized boats from the jetty on the northern tip of the Lac de Sainte-Croix. Take one out for the afternoon, cruise up the canal, then come back to the lake and find a quiet corner to ‘drop anchor’ and go for a dip.
Swim & sunbathe on a hidden beach
Provence is home to an incredible coastline, with some of France’s finest beaches. And despite its popularity, it’s still possible to find romantic coves and secluded spots to relax and while away the hours swimming and sunbathing. Some of these hidden beaches can be found on the Cote Bleue – the Cote d’Azur’s lesser-known sibling. Hike along the coast, in either direction, from Niolon to find the beaches only the locals frequent. Plage de la Pointe de Figuerolles is a favourite, as is the stunning Calanque de l’Everine.
Drive through the villages of the Luberon
There are few more iconic, and romantic, things to do in Provence than driving through the hilltop villages of the Luberon. From the famous cobbled alleyways of Gordes, to the sunshine hues of Roussillon, to the understated elegance of Menerbes – they all have their own unique appeal.
Allocate at least a day, to allow yourself time to indulge in the French art of flaneur, and get lost in these ancient worlds that have been preserved and restored remarkably well. Pack a picnic to enjoy overlooking the valley, or pop into lunch at Bistrot le 5 (Menerbes), or L’Orangerie (at La Bastide in Gordes) to enjoy a romantic setting with unbeatable views.
Sip fine wines at a French Chateau
Besides food, the South of France is famous for its wine. And one wine in particular. Provence rose has a well-earned reputation around the world, and there are fewer better places to sample it than straight from the producers. The countryside in Provence is peppered with chateaux, so you won’t be hard-pressed to find one to pop into. But if you want to plan ahead, aim for Château La Coste north of Aix-en-Provence which delivers an entire art and wine experience, or head along to Chateau Gassier near Mont Sainte Victoire where you can buy a pre-made picnic and sip their signature rose among the vines.
Shop for antiques in L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue
The antiques capital of France, L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the best place to go to pick up a unique keepsake or memento to remember your trip to the south of France. Browse the stalls for little treasures, before proceeding alongside the canals to the heart of the old town. It’s here you’ll find plenty more ways to part with your money in boutiques selling everything from handmade ceramics to authentic Marseille soaps.
The main market day (Sunday) transforms the town into a hive of activity, and after you’ve shopped up a storm, you can dine waterside on one of the bistro terraces. If you’re visiting in early August, don’t miss the annual floating market when locals dress up in traditional outfits and sell their wares directly from their boats.
Situated in an abandoned stone quarry, the Carrières de Lumières today hosts one of the most remarkable immersive art experiences in Europe. Each year, a single theme is brought to life through images and sound to create an encompassing experience for the senses. Former exhibitions have included Picasso, Van Gogh, and Dali among others.
Located in the medieval village of Les Baux de Provence, the experience can go hand in hand with a walk through one of France’s (official) most beautiful villages. Don’t forget to also visit the Chateau des Baux de Provence to immerse yourself in another side of the region’s history.
Cycle around the island of Porquerolles
The island of Porquerolles is situated just off the coast of the coast of Provence, near Hyeres. A doable day trip, but a more enjoyable short break destination, the car-free island is an unspoiled gem in the Mediterranean. Take your bike (or hire one there) and spend your days beach hopping, visiting the island’s vineyards, or hiking through eucalyptus forests and olive groves.
Pink lakes and pink birds in the Camargue
There’s no mistaking pink as a colour of romance, so if you’re looking to up the ante, why not plan a trip to the Camargue! Home to pink lakes and thousands of pink birds, it’s sure to leave an impression. Start with a trip to the Salin d’Aigues-Mortes, the salt lakes that turn pink from the algae present in the water, Dunaliella Salina. Nearby, swarms of greater flamingos gather at the marshlands of the Camargue. To see their natural beauty up close, head to Parc Ornithologique where you can walk around the lakes on a wooden pathway. The birds are wild, but you’ll find hundreds of them grazing in the muddy marshes if you visit in the warmer months.
Stay somewhere lovely: Romantic Places to Stay in Provence
The Luberon is the best place to stay if you’re looking to experience the romantic nature of Provence. And luckily it’s brimming with decadent hotels and B&B’s where you can indulge and relax.
La Bastide de Gordes is famously lavish, and offers visitors the ultimate in luxury. If that’s not quite fitting your budget, Le Clos du Buis in Bonnieux offers a more intimate stay in authentic surroundings.
Alternatively, just south of the Luberon, with easy access to Aix-en-Provence you can live out your French fantasy by staying in the exquisite Chateau de Fonscolombe. With grand gardens, and its own onsite vineyard, you’ll never want to go back to ‘real life’

New Orleans, Louisiana
With its beautiful French Quarter region and no shortage of sights, New Orleans is one of the many perfect choices for United States romantic getaways.
Perhaps most associated with Mardi Gras, there’s a lot more to this city than a massive carnival (even if that is a fun time to visit!).
We have a few romantic favorites in New Orleans. One of our favorite experiences was taking a steamboat cruise with dinner on the Mississippi River.
That was a lovely evening experience that featured live jazz, gorgeous city views, and of course, an experience aboard a real-life steam-powered sternwheeler!
New Orleans is without a doubt, one of the most romantic cities in the US!
Other fun things we enjoyed doing were sipping coffee in Cafe Beignet, people watching in Jackson Square, riding the old streetcars, and touring some of the old city center homes.
Naturally, there are some wonderfully romantic restaurants in New Orleans as well for a couples evening out, somewhere like Bacchanal would do very nicely, followed perhaps by a spot of salsa at Chris Owens Nightclub?
Whatever you decide to do, we’re sure you’ll find New Orleans to be the perfect romantic city for you and your partner!
-Laurence, Finding the Universe
San Francisco, California
California boasts its fair share of romantic getaways in the United States. San Francisco is one such destination.
There’s a reason why so many screenwriters set their romantic comedies in San Francisco – it’s a beautiful place to fall in love. And it’s a gorgeous place to take your special someone.
This iconic view is one of the most romantic sights in the USA!
If you’ve had your fill of sunset views of the Golden Gate Bridge (just kidding, you can never have enough of them), there are a myriad of places to take a stroll and have picnics – on a beach, or in Golden Gate, Presidio or Dolores parks to name a few. When the stars come out you could opt for a romantic dinner and cocktails in North Beach, or work up an appetite by visiting the many twinkling light art installations scattered over the city for Illuminate SF.
If you prefer to feel like you’ve been whisked back in time, visit the Palace of Fine Arts, which was inspired by classical Roman and Greek architecture. See a show there or just go for a walk around the lagoon and watch the swans paddle by.
Whatever you choose to do, San Francisco is sure to bring out the romance in your vacation.

Santa Fe, New Mexico
For romantic getaways in the United States, the Southwest has many lovely options. How about Santa Fe?
Nestled among the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, SantaFe is a haven for lovers who will find countless things to do in this charming city.
From its picturesque architecture and narrow streets that follow 17th-century trails, there is plenty of magic to explore. History and art live side by side in this pueblo that is 7000 feet above sea level.
You two can treat yourselves to a truly unique experience at the romantic, secluded, and all-suite hotel: Inn of the Five Graces. Where the colorful and artistic inn will charm you with its East meets West style. They will cater to your every need.
You can also stop by La Fonda on the Plaza, Santa Fe’s most historic hotel for a bite of delicious breakfast.
For a romantic USA vacation in the Southwest, Santa Fe is it!
Then there is the amazing spa at La Posada of SantaFe or even a private soak at 10,000 Waves. Both have options for couple’s massages and treatments. And don’t forget the romantic dinner and bar scene.
From the deliciously innovative dishes served in a rustically luxurious setting at Anasazi Restaurant and Bar to the sexy lighting, kiva fireplaces, and the soft music playing at Geronimo’s.
There is plenty to eat and drink in this town. Be sure and have a nightcap at Secreto Lounge, one of SantaFe‘s secrets that is hard to keep.

It makes for a perfect romantic vacation and there’s plenty to do if you don’t want to stay in bed all weekend.
Ithaca has a great farmer’s market which makes for a great lunch and some shopping. Cornell University is close as well and the Ivy League campus is actually stunning with waterfalls, hills and fantastic architecture. It makes for a great romantic walk.
Upstate New York is a very romantic vacation destination in the US!
If you’re more active then Robert H. Tremam State Park and Watkins Glen State Park are both nearby and with their gorges and waterfalls they definitely add a nice touch to a romantic getaway.
The best part of a romantic vacation to the Finger Lakes area, however, has to be the star gazing. It’s absolutely breathtaking and the best way to end a romantic evening!
Definitely one of the best romantic places in the United States, the sweet southern town of Savannah is a city that combines the rich history and epicurean delights of New Orleans with the quixotic charm of Charleston. While the latter two cities may be most well known, it’s the city of Savannah that provides the most romance for visiting couples.
From its antebellum architecture to its gourmet gastronomy, its fabulous cocktail scene (and open container laws) to its rich history, the southern city of Savannah, Georgia is sure to charm you.
Days in Savannah, Georgia are spent enjoying the finer things in life at a leisurely pace (hence, the nickname “Slo-vannah”).

Eugene is the cutest and most romantic place in the United States because it blends everything couples love all in one place! If you are looking to visit wine country that isn’t overrun with tourists, Central Oregon is the place to be and it is as romantic as ever.
Eugene is located on the Willamette Valley which is home to many wineries which produce nationally known wines namely Pinot Noir.
Eugene Oregon is a fantastic vacation destination for couples!
It is also home to delicious food and more craft breweries than you can count so if you aren’t a wino there are still plenty of options for you!

There is nothing more romantic than going for a stroll to a waterfall followed by a swim in a hidden hot spring in the woods and then going for a romantic dinner at a local winery or craft brewery!

Newport, Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island is a charming city by the sea that is definitely one of the best for a romantic getaway.
Stroll hand-in-hand along the rocky shoreline of the Historic Cliff Walk while admiring the mansions overlooking the water.
Visit Newport Vineyard for a winery tour and tasting or to sip a glass by the fire. Indulge in seafood at one of the many waterfront restaurants and be sure to order oysters, a well-known aphrodisiac.
Newport is one of those classic romantic getaway spots in the USA.
Don’t forget to plan your evenings around the setting sun. Newport’s location on Aquidneck Island makes sunset views available from three different sides of the peninsula or on the harbor during a catamaran cruise.
And if you’re really looking to impress your partner, try a helicopter tour or a few serene hours at Bodhi Spa. However you decide to spend your time, Newport, Rhode Island is a welcoming and enchanting New England destination at all times of the year.

When you think of romantic places to visit in USA, Rhode Island has some good options, and Newport tops the list.
Cozy mountain resorts, magical snow falling from the sky, and the coziest and most charming downtown strip/main street I’ve ever found in the U.S. – if you’re looking for romance, Park City, Utah has it all.
Park City, Utah is an excellent place in the USA for a couples trip!
The ski resort destination is a short 35 min drive from the Salt Lake City airport making it easy to get to while still feeling worlds away from hectic city life. Great skiing, local shops, great food, and gorgeous resorts make for a relaxing romantic vacation.
After hitting the slopes, unwind with a little après-ski at your resort or one of the local bars in town. Take a stroll down Main Street hand-in-hand while exploring the local boutiques and shops.
Cap off your day with a romantic dinner out, either taking in the views at the Stein Erickson Lodge, going for a steak dinner at Ruth’s Chris, or an awesome dining experience at Handle, before retreating to your hotel for a dip in the heated pool, hot tub, or in-room Jacuzzi tub.
Book a couples massage at the hotel spa for the next day – not only for romance, but your body will thank you for it after a day on the slopes.

Bar Harbor, Maine
We Two Drifters have to agree, Bar Harbor, Maine is one of the most romantic places to visit in the US.
Sitting in a cozy blanket over a hill to watch the sunrise or driving along the ocean or sitting on the beach watching the waves or enjoying a meal by the bayside.
If that’s what you are looking for, then Bar Harbor is a perfect choice.
This is one of the most charming, romantic getaway spots in the USA.
Bar Harbor, a small, charming town is nestled along the Atlantic Ocean on Mt. Desert island in Maine.
Surrounded by Acadia National Park, the home of rugged rocky landscape, mountains and beaches is a perfect place to come up close with nature.
The best way to explore is driving down the 27-mile Park loop road that runs along the rocky coast offering some breathtaking vistas.
Some of the scenic spots enroute are– Thunder hole, Sand beach, Otter cliff and Cadillac mountain.
Beating the cold strong winds atop the Cadillac mountain, watching the orange and purple haze overlooking the bay, as the sun rises, is totally worth it. One can even walk to the tidal island of Bar Island during low tide and immerse in stunning views of Bar Harbor and Acadia.
If that’s not enough try getting a scenic bird’s eye view in a plane. Acadia and Bar Harbor won’t disappoint you and yearn you to be back again.
Washington is a very romantic place to visit in the USA!
Mount Rainier National Park is located in Washington state about 60 miles southeast of Seattle. Centered around the beautiful, glacier-capped Mount Rainier, the park is a true natural icon. The mountain, which is an active volcano, ascends over 14,000 feet above sea level.
Standing in the park and looking up, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by how naturally stunning your surroundings are. In the colder seasons, you can find the national park covered in blankets of soft white snow. For a romantic winter getaway, you can cozy-up inside of a cabin in or around the park.
During the warmer seasons, couples can enjoy a lovely hike through green fields, speckled with colorful wildflowers and expansive views around every corner. When you least expect it, you might stumble upon a lake, waterfall, or view that wasn’t on your radar.
Every way you look in Mount Rainier National Park is breathtaking, making it the perfect destination to be experienced with someone special.
If you love romantic trips in the US that include exploring charming towns and the great outdoors, the White Mountains in New Hampshire is the perfect romantic weekend destination!
I might be slightly biased since my husband asked me to marry him after a fantastic day strolling the streets of Littleton, NH.
The town, although small, has all the lovely features of quintessential New Hampshire including a running watermill and covered bridges over the river!
In particular, Littleton celebrates music. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the decorated pianos and “Harmony Park”, which showcases 3 xylophone-styled instruments and drums free for all visitors to play!
White Mountains in New Hampshire are a very romantic place to visit for your next couples trip!
Before heading home the next morning we stopped by Franconia Notch State Park to find an quick and scenic hike to end our weekend getaway on a high note.
We hustled up the 1.5 mile loop trail for Bald Mountain and Artist Bluff trail to enjoy a stunning view overlooking Echo Lake with the rest of the more famous White Mountains in the background.
Chicago is one of my favorite romantic cities. However, nothing tops a dinner at the Signature Room located on the 95th and 96th floors of the Hancock Tower.
Make sure to reserve a table by the window here so you can enjoy a fantastic meal above the cloud line or take in the skyline and shores of Lake Michigan from a completely new angle.
Even if you have other plans for dinner, you can grab a quick drink in the Signature Room Lounge on the 96th.
There are so many romantic things to do in Chicago, it’s an excellent couples getaway spot in the USA!
Despite the fact that it is one of the largest cities in America it is also one of the best for romantics. With virtually every type of food – domestic and exotic, you are certain to find one that matches you and your partner’s tastes … or keep things fresh by trying new experiences together.
While Chicago is probably best known for its tall buildings, there is a surprising amount of green space and public lands that are perfect for exploring together too. This includes strolling through the park or relaxing on the beach listening to the waves coming in off of Lake Michigan.
Or you can grab a kiss by one of the pocket parks along the Chicago River and share a moment that’s all about you while surrounded by the city almost 10 million people.
PS: Check out another romantic spot in Illinois, the town of Galena.
Charleston, South Carolina
The South is filled with several of the most romantic places in the United States. How about that Southern charm?
Charleston, South Carolina, embodies the slowing down one expects when traveling south and also exudes the lush beauty that comes from warm summers.
For a romantic stay, you’ll want to check in at the Wentworth Mansion, following in the footsteps of Reese Witherspoon and Diana Ross.
This splendid historic mansion in the downtown historic district features large guest rooms with 14 ½-foot-high ceilings and Italian crystal chandeliers, plus luxury amenities such as oversize whirlpool bathtubs, nighty turndown with housemade chocolates, and triple-sheeted beds.
And for dinner, all you need do is stroll over to the Circa 1886 restaurant located inside the former carriage house. This charming restaurant is romantic to the core, and the cuisine is inventive and the service superb. It’s enough to make you swoon.
Southern charm certainly doesn’t hurt when looking for the top USA romantic getaways!
Continue the romance the next day with a horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina. Drivers and riders never know in advance which route they will get–it is decided by lottery, but a local says, “I haven’t had a bad tour yet.”
Another must-do is a tour of the neoclassical Nathaniel Russell House Museum. Built in 1808 and restored in the 1990s, it features local bricks and beautiful original white ironwork.
This important dwelling offers a deep peek into the upper crust’s lifestyle. with acclaimed features that include 14-foot ceilings (which helped keep things cool), gilded cornices, and a cantilevered staircase.
Estes Park is a small town in northern Colorado, located near the entrance of the Rocky Mountain National Park.
It is a great mountain town for couples looking for a romantic outdoorsy getaway. The cute town center is walkable and features old-fashioned candy stores, several antique and vintage stores, art galleries, and several cafes and restaurants.
There are also lots of places to enjoy a drink with several local breweries, wineries, and distilleries.
Estes Park is an excellent spot for a romantic couples trip in the US.
Couples may also enjoy taking a ride on the Estes Park Aerial Tramway to get a scenic view over the town. There are ample outdoor activities in the area which include hiking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, rafting, ziplining, 4WD tours, and camping.
More relaxed activities include scenic drives in the mountains, spa days, and leisurely walks.
For those not afraid of ghosts, we recommend visiting The Stanley Hotel which is a historic hotel built in 1909 that is probably best known for being the inspiration for Stephen King’s bestselling novel The Shining.
You can take a guided tour here (including ghost tours), eat at one of its restaurants, and have a drink at its whiskey bar which offers Colorado’s largest selection of whiskeys and single malt scotches.
Although the mountains and outdoor activities draw people here, there are loads of other things to keep you entertained and it is a perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway!
There’s no doubt that Florida is one of the best vacation spots in the US for couples. There are many romantic places in Florida. And the Keys are especially romantic.
We loved Key West. It’s beautiful, a truly tropical getaway right by the southwestern tip of Florida State. We came here for a romantic holiday together and has an amazing time.
Key West is an island city in Florida. It’s a 160km/94m drive from Miami and in fact closer to Havana, Cuba.
The historic Old Town is one of our favourite places to walk around together. It’s full of 19th-century architecture, a range of brilliant restaurants, boutique shops and bars.
This was where the kings of Spain and literary figures like Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams used to love to visit for holiday.
Key West, FL: One of the most romantic getaways in the USA
Another romantic highlight to do together is renting a boat and going sailing around the shores of Key West. There’s a whole range of companies offering fabulous Champagne sunset cruises.
The most romantic thing about Key West we loved the most was the incredible sunsets every single evening. The best thing is to head to a beach with a few drinks and just chill there watching it. Nothing beats this!

Eureka Springs, Arkansas
Eureka Springs is a funky little artist community nestled in the Ozarks. The Ozarks is a unique region that was built up around nature. Eureka Springs became a popular destination in the late-1800s because of the clear air and “healing” spring waters.
The town was built up around the mountain and almost 150 years later, people, and especially couples, flock to this Ozarks town for an escape. It turns out, this may be one of the most romantic getaways in the US!
Eureka Springs is a great spot for a romantic USA couples trip!
Everything about this town is romantic. The winding streets filled with coffee shops and quirky stores are perfect for an afternoon walk hand-in-hand with your loved one.
The two major hotels in the heart of Eureka Springs have spas and beautiful jacuzzi suites, so you can enjoy the beauty without even leaving your room!
Plus, because of its location in nature you can explore the giant spring nearby, a hike in the mountains or get out on Beaver Lake.
If staying in nature and driving into town is more your style, you can stay at a lakefront cabin, in a treehouse or even a hobbit hole!
Eureka Springs is a great destination for couples who enjoy it all: luxury, outdoor activities, shopping and more!
-Paige, For the Love of Wanderlust
San Diego, California
Tourists traveling around California often seem to overlook San Diego due to the touristic hotspots such as San Francisco and L.A further north– however, the city is one of the most romantic and beautiful places of the country!
If you’re looking for some peaceful nature, go for a hike in Torrey Pines State Park or enjoy the beautiful Balboa Park. The one thing which makes San Diego so romantic are the beautiful sunsets which you should watch from the various beaches of San Diego.
Romantic places in the US with gorgeous beaches where you can watch the sunset are always a good bet for a couples trip.
My favorite spot has to be the iconic sunset cliffs. This small nature park offers a fantastic view on the Pacific Ocean, while the sun is slowly setting behind the sea, changing the colors of the sky.
The cliffs also never seem to be overcrowded by other people and it’s always possible to find a quiet spot to enjoy the view with your partner or by yourself. If you travel around California, make sure to include San Diego in your journey – you won’t regret it!
The Two Drifters are partial to North Carolina for romantic US getaways—what a great region with lots of Southern Charm!
This past summer my partner and I went on a romantic getaway weekend to Asheville, North Carolina. Even though he is from North Carolina he still had never traveled to the liberal city in the mountains so we knew we had to go.
We spent three days in Asheville brewery hopping, checking out local cafes, hiking, and typical sightseeing. The city has so much to do, which makes it a romantic destination for every type of couple.
Just look at these romantic mountain views!
If you’re into outdoor adventures you and your loved one can take to the DuPont State forest for some secluded hiking and waterfall chasing.
If you’re more into history Asheville is a great place to learn about America’s gilded age. The Biltmore Estate is the largest private residence in the United States. The massive home sits on a grand estate adjacent to the city and has been entertaining guests since it first opened its doors in 1895.
It’s a fantastic place to spend a day gallivanting around the grounds, having high tea, and seeing how the other half used to live in the old days.
If you’re more into drinking good beers then you’re in luck! Asheville is the place for craft beer enthusiasts on the East Coast and has more breweries per capita than many other cities in the United States.
Whatever you decide to do there, it’s sure to be a romantic time!

Kauai Hawaii is the island of rainbows and magnificent sunsets. There is a lot to experience with your significant other on this island; ziplining, hiking, golfing, watersports, helicopter tours and a colorful canyon.
As you drive together through the island you will find many beaches that just pop up that you can just pull over and enjoy a private swim or picnic.
For a tropical romantic vacation destination in the USA, it’s hard to find better than Hawaii.
To thoroughly enjoy one of Kauai’s amazing sunsets my Husband arranged a private beach dinner in a tent. We took our seats at the lovely table set with flowers. Our private butler poured us champagne to toast.
The sun began to descend slowing as we ate our delicious meal. The sky was a magnificent orange. I kept looking for the greenlight, but it did not show itself this special night.
Kauai discovered to be a very romantic destination and I wish to enjoy it again someday.
Ocean Grove is a fantastic place for a romantic couples trip in the US!
Looking for a great and unexpected couples getaway in USA? Couples who travel to New Jersey should make sure not to skip the small town of Ocean Grove on the Jersey Shore. It is settled between Sandy Hook in the north and Atlantic City to the south.
Besides being the number one destination in the State of New Jersey, one can expect blue skies, mostly sunny days an enjoy over 200 kilometers of white sandy beaches as far as the eye can see.
No wonder that one romantic thing to do is to take a walk on the long boardwalk. Especially during sunset hour it is the best thing to do.
Also, you should definitely wander along the small side streets, enjoy an ice cream at the old parlors and experience the wonderful wooden Victorian houses of Ocean Grove. Most of them have been renovated extensively.
To top it all off, why not rent one of these beautiful houses as your romantic getaway?
Fort Meyers is a gorgeous romantic vacation destination in the US.
Our perfect romantic USA destination has white sandy beaches, palm trees, sunny days, warm weather, waves crashing, tasty food, good microbrews, great sunsets, and a spa. In the USA for us, that perfect spot is Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
On our first visit, we fell in love, there are a ton of things to do in Fort Myers that kept us busy exploring the day. At the end of the day go for a walk down the beach, if you’re really adventurous you can walk all 7 miles of it. Make sure to stop and watch the sunset, we suggest one of the beach bars.
Head out to one of for some fresh seafood, we suggest getting the coconut shrimp at Dot’s. There are a ton of hotels right on the beach, we stayed at the Pink Shell Resort which offer several bedroom options.
There are also really cute little beach houses for rent. No matter what you do or where you stay you’ll have an amazing romantic getaway with your loved one.

Napa, California
Napa, California is incredibly romantic to visit thanks to being the heart of wine country. There are few things more romantic than tasting wine with your lover in gorgeous vineyard after vineyard.
Napa has perfect weather and sunshine all year long which makes it even more appealing.
We enjoyed a fabulous weekend there visiting wineries, sipping delicious wines, learning about wine-making, and driving through the gorgeous countryside.
We took a hot air ballon ride which was the ultimate romantic experience in Napa. We witnessed a marriage proposal in our balloon, and then landed for a champagne breakfast.
Napa is a lovely romantic vacation destination in the US!
Some of our favorite wineries to visit in Napa included Castello di Amorosa which is Tuscan castle and winery that looks straight out of a fairy tale. We loved Vincent Arroyo because they gave us an excellent private tour and taught us the secret of making good wine. Artesa and Heitz also have great wine and beautiful views.
At Whetstone cellars you can taste inside the 19th-century French-style chateau or in the courtyard surrounded by ancient Cedar and Oak trees. You can’t go wrong in Napa for romance!
A visit to NYC is a great idea for a romantic couples trip in the US.
You can’t talk about romantic destinations in the United States without mentioning New York City. This is an exciting metropolis with endless possibilities for a romantic escape.
Not only is the city bursting with restaurants, bars, and entertainment, there are a lot of traditionally romantic things you can do here.
You can ride a carriage through central park. Walk arm in arm down 5th Avenue. Or go deeper and get lost in the city’s vibrant history. Top it all off with a stay at one of the most luxurious hotels. There’s no way you won’t be able to find romance in the city that never sleeps.

A Valentine’s getaway is a perfect way to spend this love-focused holiday. After all, it’s February, and if you’re in the Northern hemisphere, chances are you’re anxious to get away from the snow and cold. What better excuse could there be for a romantic getaway for two? Grab your sweetheart and book a trip!
We put together this list of the best places to spend Valentine’s Day in the US, with contributions from some of our fellow travel experts. Psst! Many of these spots are warm and sunny! Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to book a Valentine’s trip or another romantic escape to one of these great destinations.
Ocean Springs, Mississippi is almost certainly not on your radar as a romantic destination but it should be. It is a hidden gem of the phenomenal Secret Coast of Coastal Mississippi and one of my favorite US Gulf Coast destinations. (It’s also on our list of top romantic southern getaways).
Pamper your sweetheart with an overnight (or several) at the award-winning boutique property The Roost, a luxurious suite at The Inn at Ocean Springs, or a private cottage at Front Beach Cottages.
When and if you leave your comfortable room, I suggest strolling the inspiring oak tree-canopied streets, visiting the astounding Walter Anderson Museum, and splurging on an enchanting culinary experience from master chef Alex Perry at Vestige.
Photo Credit: Charles McCool; how about this view for your Valentine’s couples trip?
Other romantic dining adventures include creative breakfast biscuits at Greenhouse on Porter, oysters on the waterfront porch at Mikey’s on the Bayou, and the outdoor patio at Maison de Lu. Some lovebirds will choose to stay in their rooms (plush robes optional)—in that case enjoy carryout from Eat Drink Love (in The Roost), amazing Belgian waffles from Bright-Eyed (fronting Inn at Ocean Springs), or make your own treats in your Front Beach kitchen.
For a magical and memorable romantic Gulf Coast getaway, take time to catch at least one sunset or sunrise.
New Orleans, Louisiana is known most as a destination to party. What many travelers don’t expect is that New Orleans is an excellent choice for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway.
By U.S standards, New Orleans is an old city. The architecture in the French Quarter is perfect for a day of playing tourist and strolling through an area full of history and fun. The Garden District is another beautiful area for romantic walks under centuries-old live oak trees, passing by stately old Southern homes. February is usually cool, sometimes warm, but rarely cold.
A horse and carriage ride is a classic Valentine’s Day getaway activity!
Most romantic getaways include delicious food, and there are few places in the world with food as good as that in New Orleans. Whether it’s early morning beignets at Cafe du Monde, a New Orleans po’ boy or a fancy meal at one of the city’s famous Louisiana Creole restaurants, there are endless Valentine’s Day eating options.
One of the most uniquely New Orleans options for a romantic Valentine’s Day is an evening cruise and meal on one of the famous riverboats. Couples can enjoy a nice dinner and an evening floating past the city on the Mississippi River.
Valentine’s Day occasionally occurs during Mardi Gras. This incredibly busy and crazy time in the Big Easy may not be best for a romantic getaway. Most years, however, New Orleans is a great choice for couples on Valentine’s Day. There’s not much better than a stroll down Magazine Street, sipping a hurricane in the French Quarter or enjoying some of the best food in the world with someone special in New Orleans.
Consider a stay at the romantic Roosevelt New Orleans – they’ve got a spa and a rooftop pool!
The possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing a romantic destination in the States for Valentine’s Day. Destin, Florida should be added at the top of your list. You’re guaranteed to make lifelong memories here.
Destin lies on the Emerald Coast with views of the ocean that are just beautiful. You’ll find the weather to be gorgeous with average temperatures around 18 degrees Celcius during the day. The weather makes it perfect for taking a romantic stroll along the pristine beaches and letting your feet sink into the white, powdery sand. You can also pamper yourselves by spending the day at The Spa at Emerald Grande.
How about a romantic Valentine’s Day on the beach?
Another romantic thing to do is to book a Valentine’s Day dinner cruise on a yacht and spend the evening indulging in delicious seafood while enjoying the sunset. You might also be lucky enough to spot a dolphin. In addition, HarborWalk Village offers many restaurants, shops, and boutiques. It’s the perfect area to just walk around hand in hand with your partner and to enjoy the views together.
There is no better place to spend Valentine’s Day with your significant other than Destin!
Consider booking a room at the beautiful Hotel Effie Sandestin for the perfect Valentine’s getaway!
San Juan is one of the most beautiful cities to visit in the US for colonial buildings and colorful houses. It comes with warm temperatures year-round and a vibrant old town with charming rum bars and historic landmarks.
Strolling around the old town of San Juan makes you feel like you’re walking in a real-life-movie scene. As for where to stay, I recommend the small but romantic CasaBlanca Hotel. All resorts and hotels will have special events or deals for Valentine’s Day.

How is this for romantic Valentine’s Day views??
Best of all, Palm Springs has awesome weather on Valentine’s Day when most places in the US are still cold. It’s the absolutely perfect weather to lift up the spirits and enjoy the wonderful outdoors and indoors.
Imagine a city like New Orleans, with beautiful French-inspired architecture and antebellum mansions, but with a more low-key vibe and not so much drunken debauchery.
This is Mobile, Alabama, the original capital of French Louisiana, and a city that oozes historic charm. Some of the pre-Civil War mansions are now open to the public on guided visits, such as Historic Oakley and the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion. And the nearby beaches of Gulf Shores are perfect for long, romantic walks. It may be too cold to swim in February, but the weather is mild enough that you can still take off your shoes and wriggle your toes in the sand.
Gotta love those coastal sunsets for a romantic vacation on Valentine’s Day.
And Valentine’s Day is not the only celebration happening in Mobile at this time of year. It also coincides with Mardi Gras, which is celebrated with gusto in the form of street parades, where costumed revelers on floats throw beaded necklaces and moon pies to the crowd.
Parades here are generally a lot less raucous than in New Orleans, but there are still plenty of bars around if you’re up for partying.
For a romantic Valentine’s Bed and Breakfast stay, book a room at the lovely Fort Conde Inn!
With February just around the corner, a Valentine’s Day weekend getaway is a wonderful opportunity for couples to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and cherish quality time with one another.
Niagara Falls has long been known as the world’s leading destination for lovers. It is easy to understand why: walking slowly along the boardwalk adjacent to the mighty rapids of the Niagara River, hand-in-hand is beyond enthralling. Nature’s power, impressive beauty, and scale are not only seen but felt inside. It is unforgettable to be next to a waterfall holding hands with your sweetheart.
Arguably the most powerful reason to visit Niagara Falls in February is absolutely stunning view of the frozen waterfalls. On Valentine’s Day Niagara Falls have entirely different scenery in comparison to what they look like during the other seasons. One of the main reasons to spend Valentine’s Day in Niagara Falls is to see it frozen! Frozen waterfalls are absolutely breathtaking and offer entirely different scenery compared to the other months. Sections of it become frozen over, while the thick mist rises up above the Falls and surrounds you at times.
Photo Credit: Ivan Tannenberg; doesn’t this look like the kind of place you’ll need to cozy up together to stay warm on Valentine’s Day?
Dense clumps of snow and ice bury the rushing water and only tiny sections remind visitors about the furious cascades of water falling from a height. However, watching just how fast the water is moving is very impressive. Pair with the view of protective fences, barriers, and trees draped in clumps of ice, you’ll get the perfect setting for a relaxed, romantic walk.
Many of the local hotels have a range of special spa offers to tempt you with. From exploring the Castellani Art Museum and the Underground Railroad Heritage Center to waterfall view fine dining, Niagara lives up to its name as a romantic getaway, it is the perfect place to fall in love.
Book a room at the stunning Giacomo Hotel to be perfectly situated to explore the falls on your Valentine’s Day couples trip.
If the hustle and bustle of the city life is too stressful for you, why not consider a romantic getaway to a small beach town?
Located in the eastern coastal region of Massachusetts, Cape Cod is the perfect place to go for a relaxing Valentine’s day couples trip. Only 4.5 hours of driving from stressful New York City, Cape Cod is one of the best places for a romantic weekend.
In the summer, the beaches are crowded with kids running around, loud music blaring, and more cars than parking spaces. However, in February, the town is quiet due to the colder weather. Visitors can finally enjoy the beautiful beaches in isolation.
Photo Credit: Sean Lau; Cape Cod is the perfect place for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway!
Couples can stroll down the beautiful coastal areas of Cape Cod in peace, taking memorable photos and enjoying each other’s company without disturbance. After all, Valentine’s day should be about you two, not you two and a dozen other people.
Make sure you have a romantic dinner at one of the famous seafood restaurants such as Captain Linnell House, the seafood in Cape Cod is some of the freshest in the United States.
Book a room at the lovely Mansion on Ocean Edge for a romantic Cape Cod Valentine’s Day!
Vail, Colorado is one of the most romantic destinations in the United States to spend Valentine’s Day. In particular, the Bachelor Gulch area which features the ultra-romantic Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch, a ski-in/ski-out resort nestled quietly in the snow-covered Rocky Mountains.
If you are a snow skier or want to learn to ski, it is paradise. We did a private ski-school lesson and hit the bunny slopes afterwards. However, for the more advanced skiers, well, they have you all covered too!
Photo Credit: Heather Trimm; a snowy Valentine’s vacation is the perfect excuse to cuddle up at night!
If you aren’t a skier or prefer not to ski, don’t count this destination out. These two snow activities in Vail for non-skiers were perhaps my absolute favorite things we did on the entire trip. It truly doesn’t get much better than a half-day of snowmobiling up to 12,000 feet to see some of Colorado’s best Rocky Mountain views. Equally as fantastic was our dogsledding adventure and learning to mush!
Come back to have a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant complete with beautiful Valentine’s decorations, and even greet Bachelor, the resident dog! Or if you prefer to have dinner “out”, take a 15-minute sleigh ride (yes, a sleigh!) from the hotel up to Zach’s Cabin.
As you can see, it gets quite romantic in the Vail, Colorado area for Valentine’s Day!
New York City is dubbed by many as the “Capital of the world”! Not only does it get that name from solely having every single country in the world invested in it, but it brings you the widest range in variety when it comes to food, drinks, one of a kind experiences, and all different types of romantic ideas for all budgets.
This year we would like you to start it off properly by checking into the wonderful and luxurious Roxy Hotel which comes equipped with everything you’ll need for a perfect nightcap including an oyster bar, lounge, and jazz club in the basement!
Once checked in it’s time to head over to “AIRE: Ancient Baths New York” where you’ll be able to indulge in the beauty of pure relaxation and wellness before the big night out.
After you’re rejuvenated and ready to tackle the night, it’s time to head uptown to the Upper West Side! Here you’re going to dive deep into some eclectic and unique Southern Italian dining with an incredible wine list for all types of palates. The restaurant we are speaking of is “Celeste” and it’s one of the top places to eat in New York City!
If we could suggest a perfect meal here it’d be (Mussels, Tagliatelle Pasta with shrimps/cabbage/sheep’s cheese, and a bottle of Birbanera Montecucco Rosso)
NYC can be a romantic destination any time of year, but it’s got plenty of Valentine’s Day fun!
Once you’ve had a minute to digest and have the space to move, head a couple of blocks over to Cafe Lalo for some of the best dessert and aperitifs you’ll find around. Note: Romantic fact you can tell your date…this is where Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks sat and talked in “You’ve Got Mail”! You’ve got to get all the brownie points for that one.
When all is said and done at the end of the day, make uber your best friend and take a car back to your hotel for a romantic Valentine’s nightcap!
There are many fabulous weekend getaways in California perfect for romantic couples’ trips. And quaint little Carmel-by-the-Sea ranks right up there as one of the most romantic places you can visit for Valentine’s Day.
With beautiful Spanish Colonial architecture and streets perfect for strolling arm-in-arm, the one square mile village will captivate you. Browse art galleries, sip wine in one of the many tasting rooms, and have brunch in one of the world-class restaurants in the village, where you’ll find every cuisine from French to California farm-to-table fare. Take a self-guided tour of the famous Carmel fairytale cottages.
How beautiful would this West Coast Valentine’s Day getaway be?
On a nice weather day, head to Point Lobos State Park, just 3 miles south of town, to enjoy breathtaking water views on one of several easy walking trails. If you prefer a romantic drive, then cruise the Pacific Coast Highway for a few miles: even if you drive up to the Bixby Creek Bridge, you will see some spectacular scenery.
And take a blanket and a bottle of wine and make your way to Carmel Beach in the evening, to snuggle and watch a spectacular West Coast sunset. The sandy beach is both pristine and gorgeous.
Whatever you choose to do in Carmel-by-the-Sea, you can be sure you’ll have a Valentine’s Day trip to cherish!
Oh, and if you want to make it a luxurious Valentine’s Day getaway, book a room at L’Auberge Carmel!
Located in heart of western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville’s star has been increasingly on the rise over the past decade thanks to the town’s gorgeous natural surroundings, thriving cultural scene, and forward-thinking environmental consciousness.
Asheville is an incredible base from which to explore Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue RIdge Parkway, not to mention Pisgah National Forest and the French Broad River (which cuts right through the heart of town).
This is such a fun Valentine’s Day vacation destination!
In terms of lodging, countless cozy mountain cabins dot the surrounding landscape, but there are also romantic hotels in the city, such as the historic Black Walnut Inn B&B. There are also dozens of exceptional Downtown Asheville restaurants, including Posana, Curate, Plant, Bouchon, and many more. In short, it’s easily among the best places in the United States for a romantic weekend getaway!
Sedona is the perfect destination year-round but it is a great destination to celebrate Valentine’s Day. How does a hot air balloon ride sound? Or visiting a fancy restaurant for a romantic dinner for two. Or you could take advantage of the fantastic wines in the region and visit a vineyard.
Sedona also has a famous chocolate festival that runs over Valentine’s Day. From chocolate fountains to chocolate pastries you will find everything a chocolate lover could dream of at the Verde Canyon Railroad Chocolate Lovers’ Festival.
Photo Credit: Nicole Labarge; Sedona is a perfect romantic Valentine’s Day spot.
My favorite thing to do in Sedona is to get outside and check out some of the best hikes in Sedona. There are so many hikes for all activity levels. You must check out Cathedral Rock or Devil’s Bridge. These are the two most popular hikes in Sedona and for good reason. These hikes offer spectacular views of the red rocks and scenery that Sedona is famous for.
No matter what you choose to do in Sedona you will have a great time exploring this part of Arizona.
For a romantic inn stay for Valentine’s, book Casa Sedona Inn.
Romantic history peeks around every corner in Charleston. On a stroll through the city’s streets, admire the intricate iron gates that enclose enchanting gardens surrounding 300-year-old homes lit by flickering gas lanterns. Nearby, distinguished churches mingle with small art galleries and boutique shops in the historic center.
For a Valentine’s getaway, the boutique rooms of Zero George, a historic Charleston home turned hotel create an idyllic atmosphere for a romantic weekend. And Charleston’s prominent culinary scene gives visitors an abundance of dining choices for a remarkable evening.
In the center of town, Charleston’s largest square hosts the annual Southeastern Wildlife Exposition which celebrates wildlife and nature through fine art, conservation education, and of course, food and drink. Whether you decide to participate in the event, explore the intimate streets, or the wide-open coastline at one of several nearby beaches, Charleston makes an ideal romantic destination for Valentine’s Day.
Napa Valley is an incredibly romantic destination to visit for Valentine’s Day. This picturesque region features countless wineries with beautiful grounds to explore, with many recognizable names, such as Duckhorn or Silver Oak.
Each little town making up Napa Valley not only has unique wineries, but also excellent dining options. For the perfect romantic experience, visit the famous Michelin-starred French Laundry in Yountville, and do their tasting menu. Another delicious option with plenty of ambiance that is slightly more affordable is Bottega for upscale Italian food.
Photo Credit: Theresa McKinney; wine and Valentine’s Day are already the perfect pair, right?
For the ultimate Valentine’s Day getaway, stay at a luxury resort and spa, such as Carneros Resort and Spa. When you’re not out visiting wineries, you could be doing a yoga and wine pairing session on the resort grounds or enjoying the mild winter temperatures while hiking private trails. Be sure to escape the grounds for an iconic hot air balloon ride, which provides a morning of incredible sweeping views of the endless vineyards down below.
There are plenty of ways to stay busy in Napa Valley, and a Valentine’s Day spent here will offer endless opportunities for romance and relaxation.
Alaska is not usually making the top-anything travel lists, least of all for romantic destinations. But that is what makes this hidden gem one of the best destinations for a Valentine’s getaway. It will be cold, but it will also be worth it.
America’s largest state is home to some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, and in February, the city of Fairbanks is the coziest place to be. Valentine’s Day marks the start of the World Ice Sculpting Competition Showcase, and you can grab a steaming hot latte as you stroll through the magnificent works of art.
Dog sledding is also a fun activity in February, or for a more chill alternative, there are dozens of reindeer sanctuaries to explore. Once you’ve worn yourself out, dip into a hot spring and watch the snow fall around you.
But the absolute best thing to do in February for Valentine’s Day comes after the sun sets and stars twinkle into the sky. The Northern Lights. If you’re lucky, you may be able to plan ahead and score and exclusive room at the Borealis Basecamp, a dome-shaped hotel room secluded from light pollution, and watch the magic dance above you from the comfort of your own bed. But if not, grab your jacket and head up to one of the handfuls of great vantage points. It will be an experience of a lifetime!
PS: Note from Amy & Nathan: Borealis Basecamp totally just got added to our couples bucket list. Wow, what a cool place!
Amy Hartleis the author of Do You Love Me? How To Stop Seeking Reassurance in Relationships, a book on reassurance seeking and relationship anxiety. Both her book and this blog are born of personal experience; Amy shares expert relationship advice from the lessons learned during her own 10+ years with her husband, as well as couples travel tips and romantic getaway recommendations, all gleaned while traveling the world together.

Most Romantic Places in Europe
London
Submitted by David Angel, Delve Into Europe
London is one of the most romantic cities in Europe, indeed the world. It’s a vast city with as much to see as many countries and plenty of romantic things to do.
A great place to start is with a walk along the Thames Path. The short walk between Lambeth Bridge, opposite the Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Bridge. It’s only a short distance further to the London Eye, which has superb views over the city, or continue to Waterloo Bridge, where the winter sunsets are sensational. A little further along the Thames Path, the Oxo Tower Bar, has an outstanding view across the river to St Paul’s Cathedral.
Picturesque views like this certainly help to make this one of the most romantic locations in the world!
The suburb of Chelsea is another lovely romantic London spot. The busy King’s Road has many cafes where one can watch the world go by, and some gorgeous streets with brightly painted houses a short walk away. Cheyne Walk is one of the most beautiful streets in London, where everyone from King Henry VIII to three of the Rolling Stones has lived.
The houses are among the grandest in London, and full of blue plaques commemorating the famous names who resided there. The Albert Bridge, across the street from there, is the most beautiful in London. It looks at its best at night, with its twinkling lights reflected in the Thames.
It’s also worth planning a London afternoon tea in advance – some of the best hotels require reservations. The likes of the Savoy, the Ritz and Claridge’s put on an amazing spread with finger sandwiches and cakes. It’s a classic London tradition, not to be missed.
Kyiv (or Kiev as the direct transliteration from Russian) is the capital city of Ukraine, a large country in Eastern Europe. The city is small enough to walk around in a few days and is full of history. The river Dnieper runs through the centre of the city which is downstream from Chernobyl and the abandoned city of Pripyat.
The whole city is energized and developing and has a modern vibe with a hint to its past with romantic corners and beautiful architecture.
One of the best ways to explore the city is to take the funicular railway from the main area of the city to St Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. This lives up to its name with golden domes against a vivid blue building. In the small park between the railway and the monastery you will find red squirrels racing around and looking for attention, a good place to pause before setting off.
It is just a short walk to the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of St Sophia’s Cathedral with its green and golden domes and the nearby vivid green and dominating St Andrew’s Church. From the church grounds, there are panoramic views across the whole city allowing you to see how many domed churches there are across the skyline.
From St Andrews Church, Vozdvyzhens’ka Street is a gentle wander down a cobbled street with cafes and restaurants and small street vendors. A perfect place to spend time with the one you love.
Hotel Staro is a decadent location to stay in the quieter end of the city. It is surrounded by small galleries and little cafes. The rooms are ornate with high ceilings and heavy furniture and the breakfasts are good.
This city can be visited year-round although spring is the best. The winters are cold and harsh and the summers can be very warm.
Sibiu
Submitted by Corina Preda, Another Milestone
When you want to choose a destination for a romantic escape with your better half, Romania is not the first country you think of. But the truth is that Romania has medieval cities that seem excellent sceneries for a romantic getaway. And one of these cities is Sibiu.
Located at the border of Transylvania, in the heart of Romania, the city is 300 kilometers away from Bucharest. The charm of Sibiu is given by its cobblestone streets, colorful, old buildings and intimate caffes. If you plan a romantic dinner, you can choose one of the modern restaurants with delicious International and Romanian dishes. And for a romantic stay, try The Council hotel.
Some of the most romantic locations in the world are those that are a little moody, right?
On a long walk in the city centre you will discover interesting places to visit. One of the most romantic spots in Sibiu is the Stairs passage. Part of the old fortification system of the city, the Stairs passage has an amazing glow during sunset, especially in summer. After walking through this passage and crossing the Huet piazza, another place for couples will be revealed in front of you: Liars’ Bridge. This important attraction in Sibiu took its name from the lovers that swear eternal love on it. Many of these vows are broken and the bridge became a symbol of them.
Sibiu has other interesting attractions for couples and not only, so next time when you choose your romantic place, don’t forget about it!
Lisbon seems as though it was designed to be one of the most romantic cities in Europe and perhaps one of the top honeymoon destinations as well.
Built on seven hills, Lisbon is a city of dreamy miradouros or viewpoints. Start with the panoramic view from the top of the Elevador de Santa Justa, the city’s wrought-iron iron vertical street lift. Stroll up to the hilltop Miradouro de Santa Luzia for a picnic under a bougainvillea-draped trellis overlooking the Tagus River and Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood.
The best romantic getaway spots in the world have views that take your breath away!
From there, wander hand-in-hand through the twisting, cobblestone streets as you spot colorful tiles and street art. Above Alfama, on the highest hill in the city, visit São Jorge Castle and savour a sunset glass of wine from the mobile kiosks known as “Wine with a View”.
Snuggle up at the boutique hotel, the Memmo Alfama, which has cozy rooms facing the river and a rooftop terrace with city views that will make you melt. Lisbon is a year-round destination, but the best time of year to enjoy that terrace is spring or fall to avoid the summer heat and festival crowds.

Up until about a decade ago, Tbilisi was a true hidden secret, as flight connections to the rest of Europe were not so good. Now, low-cost flights have reached Tbilisi, but you’ll still find far fewer tourists compared to other European capitals – adding to the city’s wonderful romantic atmosphere.
Tbilisi offers plenty of romantic places and things to do for couples. The Old Town is impossibly beautiful, with narrow streets opening onto colourful houses, cats wandering around and courtyards with plants and flowers. You can wander around at your own leisure, or climb to Narikala Fortress overlooking the Old Town and find a secluded bench to admire the view with your loved one.
Tbilisi is also famous for its sulphur baths – in the Abanotubani district, right next to the Old Town, you can find several bathhouses where you can enjoy baths and treatments 24/7. Couples should take note that it’s possible to book a private room, to enjoy your bath in complete privacy.
So much romance to be had in this gorgeous place.
Georgian cuisine is also really delicious, and there are many romantic restaurants in Tbilisi where you can enjoy tasty specialties like khachapuri (cheesy bread) and khinkhali (giant steamed dumplings) – for atmosphere, it’s hard to beat Old City Wall, located (yes, you guessed it) into the city walls.
Rooms Hotel is a great option for couples, with bathtubs in many rooms and an inner garden for a romantic walk. It’s in the Vera district of Tbilisi, about 20 minutes away from the Old Town but with plenty of atmosphere!
Florence
With so much history and beauty, Florence is a very romantic city and a great destination for couples. One of the most romantic things to do in Florence is to head to Piazzale Michelangelo and enjoy what’s considered by many the most beautiful panoramic view of the city. Some other places in Florence with amazing views are the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral and Giotto bell tower.
Some other fantastic things to do in Florence for couples are a walk along the Arno river, a stroll in the Oltrarno quarter to admire the historic buildings that have been the theater of forbidden love stories and myths and a romantic dinner.
Old World romantic cities make for excellent couples getaway spots!
How to round off a day spent in the name of love and romance? With a cocktail in one of Florence panoramic rooftop bars such as the stunning Three-Sixty of the Grand Hotel Minerva. Open from April to October to everyone, it also includes a gorgeous rooftop pool for the hotel’s guests only. Other great rooftop bars to enjoy a romantic drink are La Terrazza at Hotel Continentale, Loggia Roof Bar at Hotel Palazzo Guadagni and the elegant Empireo at Plaza Hotel Lucchesi where you can enjoy an aperitif and a magical sunset.
If you are staying in Florence long enough, you can also take a day trip to enjoy the beautiful views of the soft rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside in paces such as the Chianti region famous for its wine.
Nestled along the turquoise banks of Italy’s soaring Amalfi Coast, it’s no wonder Positano is a hot spot forromantic interludesand honeymooners. In fact, it’s hard not to get caught up in a moment, as Mediterranean breezes tickle your sun-kissed skin and the limoncello sweetens your lips. It’s one of the most romantic European destinations for couples.
Each turn of a leisurely stroll through this enchanting town carved into the mountainside showcases breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Shops featuring the handiwork of local artisans dot the narrow descent; you’ll find chic linen beach dresses, handmade leather sandals, colorful pottery, and more.
Looking for a romantic couples getaway with a view?
Along the way, watch for the iconic dome of The Church of Santa Maria Assunta, aglow with multi-colored majolica tiles.
At the base of Positano, two black-pebble beaches hug the shore. The first and more popular beach is Grande Spiaggia di Positano. It welcomes guests with lounge chairs, boutiques, and waterfront restaurants perfect for refreshing afternoon drinks. Here, you can also charter a private boat tour to the island of Capri.
Or instead slip away to the secluded Spiaggia di Fornillo. Simply pass through the romantic promenade to escape the crowds.
For an elegant overnight, consider booking the suite at Hotel Villa Gabrisa. Once an ancient villa in the historic center of Positano, this charming hotel offers fine dining, a wine bar and cafe, plus a complimentary continental breakfast with your reservation. The spacious suite affords luxury accommodations and a large terrace with a sea view—the perfect setting for a secluded tryst with room service.
Seville is located in the southern region of Andalusia in Spain and is the perfect all year round destination for a romantic break with that someone special. Seville is a compact and relaxed riverside city with beautiful Moorish architecture, UNESCO heritage sites, excellent wining and dining and many gorgeous landscaped parks.
There are so many romantic things to do in Seville – start off your day by taking a stroll through the labyrinth of charming narrow streets and alleys of the El Barrio de Santa Cruz neighbourhood. You’ll discover many intimate squares, huge orange trees and some of Seville’s most gorgeous buildings.
Strolling arm in arm along the avenue would be a lovely romantic thing to do on this couples getaway!
Next head over to Plaza de España to admire the exquisite tile work and grand architecture, then hire a rowboat for a romantic ride around the square. Plaza de España is also beautifully lit up at night if you want to return for a romantic midnight stroll.
End your perfect day with a cosy and romantic candlelit dinner at one of Seville’s many historic tapas bars for a glass of Spanish wine and some fresh and delicious seafood. Follow up dinner with an intimate traditional flamenco show at either Casa del Flamenco or Casa de la Memoria and if you still have energy afterwards, head to Hotel Doña Maria‘s rooftop bar for a cocktail with one with the best views of the city and the Cathedral lit up at night.
Your first glimpse of the turreted fortress of Fisherman’s Bastian high on the hill on the Buda side of the city will have you feeling like you have walked into a fairy tale. You will immediately know you have chosen the right spot for your romantic vacation.
One of the most romantic things to do in Budapest is to take a sunset stroll along the Danube, as the city changes from day to night, and the lights on the stunning Parliament building come on. Once you have snapped a romantic sunset selfie head to one of the city’s rooftop bars to drink in more of the view or take a river dinner cruise, the lights never get old.
Romantic vacation destinations that provide plenty of interesting things to see and do are ideal.
When hunger strikes, Budapest is full of quirky and quality restaurants. One we loved was KönyvBár (Bookbar in English) which serves a changing menu inspired by books. To date they have covered everything from Fifty Shades to Harry Potter! The menu changes every two weeks so check and see if this week’s meal suits you. There are also a bunch of affordable Michelin star restaurants if you want to impress.
Finally, you really should pay a visit to one of the city’s thermal baths we recommend Gellért the pretty Art Nouveau designed complex. Budapest’s thermal pools are among the most popular in the world and as well as being relaxing the minerals contained in the water are said to provide lots of health benefits. Gellért offer indoor and outdoor mixed bath areas and couple massages too

With its cobble-stoned streets, gothic castles, and old-town charm – there’s no doubt that Prague in the Czech Republic is one of the most magically enchanting and romantic destinations in Europe and in the world! This medieval city has tons of viewpoints across it that are truly breathtaking, and there’s no better way to spend an evening than to enjoy a romantic sunset dinner cruise along the Vltava River.
Couples will truly get swept away by the slowed-down city pace found in Prague, and will fall in love all over again while they explore everything this city has to offer! It’s filled with stunning architecture and colorful buildings that will make you feel like you’re in a fairytale, and with Prague’s delicious food and beer, a visit to this city will surely be unforgettable.
Talk about romantic views!
For all the couples planning a trip to Prague, make sure you visit Lover’s Bridge and leave a lock with your names on it to ensure a lifetime of happiness! Whether you’ve got only 2 days in Prague or a full week to explore its magical vibe, you’re guaranteed to fall in love all over again!
Recommend Hotel in Prague: Hotel Aurus, perfectly located just a quick 5-minute stroll from Old Town Square and the Iconic Charles Bridge!
Looking for a fun, perhaps unexpected city break? One of the most romantic cities in Europe is definitely the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. The ancient city is 2802 years old and is known as “the pink city” because it is mostly built from pink volcanic stone called tuff. This illuminating tuff gives Yerevan a magical and romantic feeling from above or during certain hours of the day.
In addition to the pink tuff, Yerevan has cozy and sometimes hidden side cafes where couples can enjoy their time with each other.
There’s plenty to see and do in this romantic place.
In Armenia’s capital, there is even a park dedicated to couples called ‘Lovers Park’. You can head there and enjoy your time with your significant other in a beautiful and romantic environment surrounded by an artificial waterfall alongside a charming canal and several sculptures.
Other places that are romantic in Yerevan are the Cascades stairway, a large limestone construction that goes up an incline and the best place for couples to sit and gaze over the city at dusk. At the Cascades, you’ll find several cafes and romantic restaurants that locals love to get dressed up and enjoy in the evenings.
If you’re wanting to get out of the city and experience some of the lovely nature in Armenia, there are many wonderful day trips from Yerevan, such as Garni Temple or Lake Sevan, that will offer a new romantic setting
Azores
Submitted by Megan C. Starr
The Azores are easily one of the most romantic places to visit in Europe. The archipelago of nine islands sits in the middle of the Atlantic and is owned by Portugal, but they retain their rustic charm and beauty and are like no other place in Europe.
One of the main things that make the Azores the perfect romantic destination is that Azorean nature is some of the most beautiful on the planet. Between the natural hot springs and Jurassic ferns, a person can’t help but feel in love with their surroundings and the person that they travel to the islands with.
One of the top romantic vacation destinations in the world!
The Azores are known for being home to volcanoes, interesting cuisine like cozido das Furnas, and some of the world’s best whale watching. There are many tours in the Azores but some of the most popular are scuba diving, visiting the different sides of Sao Miguel, or going whale watching.
The best place to start your romantic journey through the Azores is in Sao Miguel… but be sure to explore the other islands like Pico and Terceira while you’re there. There are ferries connecting the islands during the high-season and inter-island flights at other times of the year. The Azores are destined to become one of Europe’s hottest destinations and you will see everyone there from honeymooners to solo travelers.
Rome
Submitted by Kate Storm, Our Escape Clause
Known as the Eternal City and positively bursting with everything from world-famous monuments to art museums to delightful cobblestone lanes perfect for wandering down hand-in-hand, there’s no doubt that Rome is one of the most romantic cities in Europe.
While exploring Rome with your beloved, be sure to make time for classics like touring the Colosseum, visiting the Vatican Museums (including the phenomenal Sistine Chapel), admiring the Pantheon and munching on gelato in Piazza Navona–but to really up the romance, ditch the crowds and explore the uncrowded side of Rome as well.
Small museums like the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, the Galleria Spada, and the Villa Farnesina may not have the fame of, say, the Borghese Gallery–but the chance to avoid the crowds and linger among gorgeous art together without having to hurry on makes them incredibly romantic.
Some of the greatest couple’s getaway spots will always be the classic romantic cities.
For a chance to steal a smooch while admiring the best views of Rome, consider heading to the top of the dome at St. Peter’s Basilica, the top of the Altar of the Fatherland, or the top of the Castel Sant’Angelo.
Rome is an incredibly romantic European city year-round, but you’ll likely enjoy your trip more if you avoid the hot, sticky summer months of July and August (though if you do make it to Rome then, know that there are plenty of beautiful beaches that make great day trips from Rome!).
If you’d like to have the Eternal City all to yourself, consider a winter trip–Rome boasts mild temperatures and a delightfully uncrowded environment during winter, making it an excellent destination for a Valentine’s Day getaway!
Paris is for lovers! Could there be a more romantic destination than Paris, France? It’s a global hot spot for anyone who loves French cuisine, art, and culture. As you wander the banks of the Seine and sip a glass of wine in a cozy café, the City of Lights will weave its spell over the two of you in no time.
Skip long lines at the Louvre for a more intimate experience sighing over Monet’s famous water lilies at the beloved Orangerie or tapestries at the Cluny Museum instead. Or gaze up at Rodin’s famous statue, The Thinker, in the lovely gardens of the Rodin Museum.
Admire city views from the very top of the spectacular Eiffel Tower (reserve tickets in advance). It’s world-famous for a reason. Or watch it sparkle with twinkling lights as you cruise down the River Seine at sunset. It’s a stunning way to see riverside Paris monuments dramatically illuminated.
Looking for more ideas? Share a picnic just for two in one of the city’s dozens of verdant parks or a cafe au lait and pastry at Le Grenier á Pain. There are so many things to do in Paris. For a memorable stay that won’t break the bank, stay at Hotel Abbatial Saint Germain. It’s conveniently located in the Latin Quarter, just minutes from Ile de la Cité.
Oxford is widely acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful cities in the UK, (and it’s actually one of the Two Drifters’ favorite destinations in Europe). Stunning period buildings lining every street and the iconic sandy stone architecture dates back centuries. Many of the world’s most famous writers studied here and wrote stories inspired by these cobbled streets. That’s why it’s perfect for couples looking for a romantic summer break.
Romantic sights!
A day trip to Oxford from London is just enough time for couples to get a feel for this romantic city. Start with brunch at the Vaults and Gardens where you can sit outside with a magnificent view of the Radcliffe Camera, Oxford‘s iconic library. Next, climb the tower at University Church of St Mary the Virgin, from which you’ll be treated to an extraordinary view over the city. You can’t help but fall in love with the city of dreaming spires from up here!
In the afternoon, take a walk through Magdalen College, one of the most famous Oxford colleges. The grounds are stunning and even include a deer park! Wandering around inside one college is a must so you can get an insight into what life for students at Oxford University might be like. In the evening, head to Sandy’s Piano Bar for some romantic jazz music. If you’d prefer to make it a weekend getaway, you can’t go wrong with either the Randolph or Old Bank Hotel, both in the city centre.
St. Petersburg
Submitted by Yulia Dyukova, That’s What She Had
The cultural capital of Russia as its called by the locals, Saint Petersburg, is a less obvious destination when it comes to romantic vacations in Europe. And undeservedly so. With its hundreds of narrow canals, heavily decorated bridges, and pre-revolution era palaces, Saint Petersburg will charm you instantly.
One of the understated romantic destinations in Europe.
Take a stroll down Nevsky prospect and marvel at beautiful architecture. A word of warning, sometimes what you think must be a palace is actually a supermarket (looking at you, Eliseevsky store). Spend some time on the water: take a boat tour of Neva River and most popular canals. Visit the gorgeous Orthodox churches of which there are over seventy in the city. But do make a special stop at the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood that you’ve probably seen a thousand times on pictures. It is even more awe-inspiring in real life.
At night, trying some great Russian food for dinner is a must. Instead of going to touristy canteens that feature balalaikas, shapka-ushanka, and vodka bottles as decorations, head to one of the modern Russian restaurants, like Banschiki. Romantic vibes and mind-blowing food with creative twists are guaranteed.
Lastly, if you are traveling to Saint Petersburg during summer months (which you should), stay up till late to experience the famous “white nights” and see the bridges open.
Provence
Contributed by Nadine Maffre, Le Long Weekend
With its blessed climate, charming hilltop villages, stunning coastal towns and penchant for lingering over long lunches, Provence is a romantic destination like no other. It’s no wonder why many couples choose the South of France to get wed, honeymoon, or even plan a surprise proposal.
Classic romance awaits at a European vacation destination like this.
Days can be spent simply enjoying the surroundings, sipping on the region’s renowned rosé, or swimming at one of the most idyllic beaches you’ve ever laid eyes on. More active couples will enjoy the walking trails through the calanques or climbing up Cezanne’s beloved Mont Sainte–Victoire. Or hop on your bike and discover the winding roads connecting the bucolic villages of the Luberon. Culture aficionados will be in their element browsing the museums and galleries in the ancient cities of Aix-en-Provence or Avignon.
And for an authentic slice of Mediterranean life, head straight to Marseille.
For balmy days and cool nights, visit in Spring and enjoy the blossoming landscapes and uncrowded streets. And for a romantic stay in an idyllic setting book a room at La BastidedeGordes.
Moscow
Submitted by Lindsey Puls, Have Clothes, Will Travel
Moscow, Russia doesn’t always bring to mind images of “romance.” However, don’t let the stereotypes fool you – Moscow can be an especially romantic destination for adventurous couples!
While the weather is more comfortable during the summer months in Moscow, visiting Moscow in winter (especially during the Christmas holidays) is absolutely magical and looks as though the city were plucked straight from a fairytale. There are beautiful Christmas lights and markets that are perfect for grabbing a mulled wine or hot chocolate and walking through hand in hand with your partner. (The most famous market is held right in Red Square.)
Romantic vacation destinations in Europe like this one are absolutely magical.
Need to warm up after a day of enjoying the markets? Head to a Russian Banya and book a private couples room. (Banya Zhivitsa is especially couple’s friendly.) You and your partner can enjoy couples soap massages and the traditional Russian banya experience together. (A banya is similar to a sauna.)
Winter is also a wonderful time of year to see a ballet performed at the famous Bolshoi Theatre – especially if you are lucky enough to get tickets to a performance of The Nutcracker. Be sure to have a romantic dinner at Turandot or Beluga restaurants before you head to your performance.
Where to stay in Moscow: One of the most historic and glamorous hotels in Moscow is the Metropol. (This hotel is also the setting
for the best-selling novel “A Gentleman in Moscow.”) Another great option is the Four Seasons Hotel located right on Red Square with some of the most luxurious and romantic hotel bathrooms in the city.
If you’re looking for a romantic city to enjoy in Europe, look no further than Barcelona. A gorgeous cosmopolitan city with old-world flavor mixed in with gorgeous squares, historic sites, beautiful architecture and amazing food, Barcelona combines all the best of Catalan lifestyle with some fantastic places to explore and things to do around the city.
You can mix it up easily with combining historic sites like the historic district, Gaudi architecture, being out in one of the amazing parks or just spending a day at the beach and everything is accessible by metro which makes getting around the city fast and cheap.
Just look at this view!
Spending a day from above at the large park area in the center of the city at Montjuic allows you to see the splendid views from above, explore the many wonderful museums in the park and also discover the native flora and fauna of the many gardens at Montjuic. From there its an open choice of exploring the pedestrian areas of town, visiting the historic center or exploring famous sites like the fabulous Sagrada Familia, Park Guell or some of Gaudi’s famous architectural splendors around the city.
There’s plenty of romantic places to visit, explore and just find a lovely outdoor cafe and enjoy the people watching and show on the streets. Check out my post on the 15 best viewpoints in Barcelona here for more inspiration and amazing places with views of the city to enjoy and visit.
Scotland is extremely captivating and it’s also one of the amazingly beautiful areas in the country is the Isle of Skye. This part of the highlands is very romantic, too. Its green, it has huge mountains, mesmerizing lakes and historical castles beautifully sitting near the lochs.
Moody romantic European vacations are the best.
The Isle of Skye presents a complete vibe of a super romantic place that takes you away from the hustle-bustle of everyday life. It’s serene and picturesque and let you have your alone time away from everything. Moreover, Isle of Skye hosts the most romantic place in the UK, the Fairy Pools. There are straight from a storybook and takes to the lands of fairytales. There are many Hollywood as well as Bollywood movies shot in Isle in Skye and that depicts how romantic this place is to form a perfect backdrop for a romantic movie.
The Isle of Skye offers the perfect tranquillity one craves for a romantic, laid-back holiday. As Scotland is very cold, summer is the best time to visit Isle of Skye.
The majestic Irish landscapes, remarkable rich history, charming tradition, and welcoming people make Ireland a wonderful destination for couples looking for romance. One region to add to the list of romantic destinations, in particular, is CountyKerry: full of beautiful sites and natural beauty.
This is such a gorgeous European romantic getaway spot.
Base your stay at Ballyseed Castle Hotel where you will find elegant accommodations, fine dining and 30 acres of private gardens and woodland. During the days, take a trip to the small town of Dingle for great restaurants and Murphy’s Ice Cream. Loop around the Dingle Penninsula on the Slea Head Drive, making stops along the way at the various ancient monuments including the beehive huts and stone churches, views of Skellig Michael (where scenes were filled for the most recent Star Wars films) and the beautiful Inch beach.
Killarney National Park with 26,00 acres of woodland, mountains, lakes and the Muckross House where Queen Victoria visited is also worth a visit as well as the Ring of Kerry with spectacular sights and quirkiest towns and villages.

Tallin, Estonia is hands down the most romantic city in Europe! The Historic Old Square is brimming with storybook-esque charm and pastel hues, that make walking the streets hand in hand enjoyable.
Have to get souvenirs from your European romantic getaway!
The best time to visit Tallinn is during the winter season when the Christmas Market is open. The market has been labeled one of the best in Europe and with good reason. Set right in the middle of the square, with vendors serving up mulled wine, delicious sausages, sauerkraut, and cookies alike, and plentiful shopping to take something home from your trip. When the weather is cold during the winter, you can bundle up close and walk the beautiful cobblestone streets together and enjoy all the city has to offer.
One of the best hotels to stay in is the Hotel Telegraaf as it is a one minute walk from the Christmas Market and centrally located to restaurants, shops and activities.

Most Romantic Places in Europe
London

This piece on romantic things to do in London is a guest post from Kelly of A Pair of Passports.
Compared to the likes of Paris and Florence, London may not often be considered one of the most romantic places in Europe. However, with its incredible history and gorgeous architecture, it’s hard not to fall in love in London – and with London. It definitely is a great spot for a romantic European getaway.
It feels like the city is always changing, surprising its residents and visitors with new things to do and places to explore. As a couple that loves date night, though, we have learned to find the romance amidst the hustle and bustle. Here are fifteen romantic things to do and romantic places to go in London:
15 Romantic Things to Do in London
Have a picnic in St. James Park
Wine and dine in style (and with a view of Buckingham Palace) at London’s St. James Park. It’s a quieter park than most in the evening, and a lovely place to wander around before parking and picnicking.
For a luxurious picnic, hampers can be purchased at Fortnum & Mason up the road.
Alternatively, pop into any M&S or Waitrose and pick up a bunch of ready to eat goodies and a bottle of wine. Aside from buying your goodies, this is one of many romantic AND free things to do in London!
Romantic London activities like a stroll around St. James Park are the perfect way to enjoy the city!
Sip wine by candlelight at Gordon’s Wine Bar
Gordon’s Wine Bar is perhaps the coziest spot in London – if you can get a seat inside, that is! Get there early and stake out a spot, then sit and enjoy a bottle of wine by candlelight.
As you sit there chatting, you can feel the rumble of the trains going by. If you’re feeling peckish, they offer a lovely selection of cheeses.
PS: Make sure you’re well-dressed for your evening. This London packing list will help you prepare for your trip!
There is nothing more wonderful than experiencing the most beautiful London landmarks at sunset.
City Cruises offers a range of cruises down the Thames, including themed dinner cruises and show cruises. The routes vary, but almost all of them pass under Tower Bridge and float by Big Ben & the Houses of Parliament. Here is a Thames River cruise that runs from Westminster to Greenwich.
It’s a great way to get unobstructed views of some of London’s most popular sights. Plus, champagne on a boat at sunset (such as with this evening river cruise)? Sounds like one of the most romantic things to do in London at night.
Head southwest towards Richmond and spend the day at the Royal Botanical Gardens and Kew. The beautiful landscape features 60,000+ plants, glasshouses, and even a treetop walkway.
Learn about bees at The Hive, admire the stunning Palm House, and marvel at the Princess of Wales Conservatory, where you can transport yourselves throughout the world as you explore the ten different climatic zones.
Each season looks completely different at Kew, so it’s worth a visit year round. At Christmas, the entire place is transformed into Christmas at Kew, which features innovative light displays, Christmas goodies, and an incredible light show timed to Christmas music.
*Pro Tip: Buy The London Pass to get admission to Kew Gardens and 60 other attractions at one great low price.
London’s culinary scene is absolutely thriving, with new concept restaurants opening all the time featuring cuisines from all over the world.
While there is no shortage of restaurants to choose from, there are definitely some that stand out when it comes to the romance factor. Here are some of the best options for a romantic date night in London:
Cozy up in an Art Deco style booth at Bob Bob Ricard while indulging in the ‘Press for Champagne’ button
Dine with an incredible view over London at Aqua Shard
Add in a bit of mystery and book an experience at Dans Le Noir, where you will dine in total darkness
Feast on oysters at Wright Bros. cozy South Kensington location before sharing a bottle of champagne in the stylish basement bar
It seems like a new skyscraper is revealed in London each year, and every one offers some sort of bar or restaurant with stunning views. Head up to any of them for an evening drink and to watch the sunset. This will be the perfect end to your romantic day in London.
Or, for a great view of all of the skyscrapers, head to The Aviary.
There’s plenty to do and see on a romantic London getaway!
Cozy up by a pub fire with a board game
In the summer, London’s famous pub beer gardens flourish; in the winter, it’s the pubs that offer an open fireplace. Get to the pub early to snag a spot near the fire, then park yourselves there for a few hours.
Many pubs have board games that you can borrow; otherwise, bring your own deck of cards and just enjoy a lazy afternoon together with a couple of pints.
*Or, relax at a spa with one of these great London spa deals, an ideal option for London romantic activities.
Wander around one of London’s picturesque neighborhoods
Spend a day just wandering around hand in hand, finding your own favorite spots that you can return to every time you visit London. This is one of our favorite couple things to do in London. After all, there’s nothing more romantic than having a memory that is yours together.
Some great neighborhoods to explore include South Kensington, Notting Hill, Hampstead, and Greenwich.
There are so many delightful places to explore in London for couples in search of romance!
Watch theatre by candlelight at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse
The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, an indoor theatre next to Shakespeare’s Globe, hosts performances year round. The performances are lit entirely by candlelight, with actors even carrying around candelabras while acting.
It’s an incredibly romantic form of entertainment! Next door, the beautifully decorated Swan offers great pre & post-theatre dining options, as well as drinks.
Is there anything more romantic than trying new things together? Spend an afternoon wandering around Borough Market, tasting every food you can imagine.
Stalls offer everything from fresh fruit & veg to warm baked goods. There’s even an entire shop dedicated to olive oil! Finish off your visit with a street food lunch and a wander along South Bank.
While the London Eye is usually classed as perhaps one of the most touristy things to do in London, there is nothing better than admiring one of London’s most iconic sights, Big Ben, with a glass of champagne in hand.
Book one of the ‘special pods’ for your trip around the London Eye to enjoy a champagne or chocolate tasting during your journey.
Alternatively, if you want to go above and beyond in the name of romance, a full pod can be booked for a private dinner.
Just another one of those romantic couples things to do in London!

Take a walk in Hampstead Heath
Despite its extremely central location, Hampstead Heath feels totally disconnected from the hustle and bustle of London. Go for a wander through the park with your loved one and you will immediately feel like you have been transported to the countryside.
On the north side of the park, Kenwood House is a historic home featuring an impressive art collection. On the south side, it’s all about Parliament Hill, which offers stunning views over London.
Enjoying views like this is a classic romantic thing to do in London and all around the world!
Eat breakfast in bed – with a view!
Many of London’s five star hotels offer five star views. Shangri-La at the Shard offers stunning views over St. Paul’s Cathedral, while Marriott County Hall faces Big Ben & the Houses of Parliament.
Most of the hotels located along the famous Park Lane look out over Hyde Park. And, if you prefer the look of interiors to the exterior view, consider staying at the beautifully designed Artist Residence.
Splurge on a room with a view and order breakfast to your bed; there’s nothing more romantic than a cozy morning in, and it certainly is the perfect addition to your romantic things to do in London!
